Intense Beginner Course: Fundamentals of Watercolour 🎨✨

Discover the joy and artistry of watercolour and build a strong foundation you can rely on for years to come! Watercolour can sometimes seem like one of the most challenging painting techniques, but with the right understanding of water, colour, layers, and tone, it becomes much more approachable — and incredibly rewarding.

This intensive course is perfect for anyone starting with watercolour, self-taught artists who want professional guidance, or artists with previous experience who want to make sure their foundations are truly strong. A solid understanding of the fundamentals gives you the freedom to progress with confidence, without basic gaps holding you back.

You’ll be guided throughout the course by an experienced tutor and professionally trained artist, who will help you understand not only what to do, but why it works. Together, we’ll take the mystery out of watercolour and learn how to work with the medium rather than simply hoping for the best. 🙂

Course Highlights:

💧 Master Water & Paper: Learn how to control the most important element in watercolour — water! Practice working on wet and dry paper and discover how the amount of water changes the behaviour of your paint.

🎨 Understand Colour & Mixing: Explore colour theory and learn how to mix beautiful, harmonious colours. We’ll pay special attention to creating natural grays and rich blacks without relying on ready-made mixtures.

🌿 Learn to Build in Layers: Learn how to approach a painting from the very beginning. Discover how to break a scene down into several stages and layers, allowing each layer to do its job while keeping the final painting fresh and transparent.

Make Your Artwork Look Like Art, Not an Illustration: Learn the subtle decisions that can make a big difference to the overall feel of a painting.

🤍 Master White Without White Paint: Discover the many ways to create and preserve white in watercolour.

🌓 Understand Values, Tone & Contrast: Learn how to see and control light and dark in your painting. We’ll explore how paint thickness and water affect the value of your colours.

What's the agenda?

During the workshops, I share the most important techniques that we need to focus on the subject. I make a demonstration of the painting process in a few steps (typically 2-3). During this demonstration, you are welcome to ask questions, and I will explain the key details. After each step, you will have time to work on your own piece. I will circulate among the group, providing individual assistance and answering any questions.

Absolutely. All my classes are suitable for artists of all levels. I work with everyone individually, providing personalised feedback to help you with any challenges you may be facing. The workshops are held mainly in English, but I also speak Norwegian at a B1 level and native Polish, so we can communicate in either of those languages.
