Plein-Air Watercolour Workshop: Vigeland Park Landscapes

Join us for a peaceful outdoor painting session in Vigeland Park, where art and nature come together in one of Oslo's most beautiful green spaces. We'll capture tranquil lakes, lush trees, elegant bridges, and iconic sculptures while enjoying a relaxing, picnic-like afternoon outdoors.

This workshop focuses on creating harmonious landscape compositions by combining natural scenery with architectural and sculptural elements. You'll learn how to paint expressive greenery, soft reflections on water, and simplify decorative details into fresh, lively sketches using loose watercolour techniques.

Workshop Highlights:

🌳 Paint Nature in the City: Capture the beauty of Vigeland Park's lakes, mature trees, and peaceful surroundings.

🌉 Blend Landscape & Architecture: Learn how to incorporate bridges and sculptures into balanced, engaging compositions.

🎨 Expressive Watercolour Techniques: Create fresh, atmospheric paintings with loose brushwork and luminous colour.

🧺 Picnic-Like Creative Escape: Enjoy a relaxed plein-air experience surrounded by greenery, fresh air, and inspiring company.

🌿 Capture Light & Atmosphere: Explore how light filters through trees and reflects across the water to create depth and mood.

🖼 Create a Beautiful Keepsake: Leave with a watercolour painting that captures the calm, beauty, and artistic spirit of one of Oslo's most beloved parks.

What's plein-air?

“Plein air” is a French term for painting outdoors. During our plein-air sessions, we stay together in one location and paint what we see around us. The paintings are usually loose sketches — more like capturing the feeling and memory of a place.

Kasia will create a demo painting and explain each step along the way. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions, get help, and receive feedback.

How to prepare?

Every location is different. We usually find benches to sit on, but grass, stairs, or the ground can also work well. It’s a good idea to bring a hat, umbrella, rain jacket, or an extra sweater — just in case. Aim to bring one extra layer, as we’ll stay in one spot for around two hours, and the weather can feel cooler in the shade or warmer in direct sun.

If you have a plein-air easel or a foldable chair, feel free to bring them. If not, don’t worry — we’ll find a comfortable place to sit on the day. Bringing something small to sit on, like a blanket or sitting mat, is also a great idea.

Feeling shy about painting outdoors?

Don’t worry — we stay together as a group, and we usually choose quiet spots with very little interaction from passers-by. And whenever people do stop, it’s always been positive :)

If you feel nervous about people walking past and seeing you paint, remember: most people don’t know how to paint, so they’ll simply admire what you’re creating. And those who do paint will admire it even more — because they understand what it takes to be an artist :)

FAQ

What if I can't join the workshop that I bought a ticket for?

If you can't join, please let me know as soon as possible. There may be a waiting list, and others need time to be informed and prepare. Additionally, the studio relies on making rent to continue operating.

- 10 days before the event: The ticket can be refunded or transferred to another event.
- 24 hours before the event: The ticket can be transferred to another event.
- Less than 24 hours before the event: The ticket can't be refunded or transferred anymore.

What if it rains?

In case of rain, the workshop will take place indoors in the Akvarell Atelier, or the session may be rescheduled or cancelled. If the workshop is cancelled, or if you’re unable to attend the new date, you will receive a full refund.

What should I bring?

Take a hat / umbrella / rain jacket / extra sweater just in case. Aim to take one extra layer. Remember we will be in one place for two hours so it may be colder if we stay in shadows, or warmer if there's lots of sun that day.

You can take a plein-air easel and/or a foldable chair if you have one. If not, we will find a place to sit on the day.

It is a good idea to have something to sit on - a blanket or a sitting mat.

Do I need to bring materials?

All professional quality materials are included in price.

I'm a complete beginner - can I still join?

Absolutely. All my classes are suitable for artists of all levels. I work with everyone individually, providing personalised feedback to help you with any challenges you may be facing. If you're feeling stressed about joining the class, please let me know. Occasionally, I hold a 'complete beginner' class that may not be published yet. We can also arrange a free 30-minute introductory session or organise a private lesson.

In what language is the workshop?

The workshops are held mainly in English, but I also speak Norwegian at a B1 level and native Polish, so we can communicate in either of those languages.

Are the workshops for adults or children?

All our courses are designed for anyone aged 16 and up, unless it's mentioned otherwise in the description.

Who's the teacher?

During the workshops you will be guided by Kasia Wiercinska - experienced tutor professionally trained in watercolour art. You can read more about her background on the About page or check her portfolio at www.KasiaWiercinska.com or Instagram www.instagram.com/kasia_wiercinska/
